Shepherd Consortium Elects New Officers and Council Members and Governing Board Chair Appoints Committee Chairs
The Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty elected new officers, members of the Governing Board, and at-large representatives to its Council at a Council meeting on July 29.
The new officers are:
Rebecca Todd Peters, Elon University, Chair of the Governing Board
Louwanda Evans, Millsaps College, Vice Chair of the Governing Board
James Calvin Davis, Middlebury College; Jill Bouma, Berea College; and Alan Tinkler, University of Vermont, were elected to varying terms on the Governing Board.
Connie Mick, University of Notre Dame, was re-elected to the Governing Board.
Jay Barth, Hendrix College, as immediate past Chair; Larry Connolly, at-large member and President of the Connolly Family Foundation; and Howard Pickett, Washington and Lee University, will continue their service on the Governing Board.
Atin Basuchoudhary, Virginia Military Institute, was elected to a three-year term as the Consortium Treasurer.
In addition, Francile Elrod, Washington and Lee University, and Jay Barth, Hendrix College, were elected to serve on the Nominating Committee.
Three new at-large members were elected to the Shepherd Consortium Council. They are Kim Cosgrove, Director of PACT’s Therapeutic Nurseries in Baltimore; Sarah Farmer, Associate Research Scholar at the Yale University Divinity School; and Kelly Nichols, co-founder of Woodland Nichols and Associates in Austin, Texas.
Rebecca Todd Peters, the newly elected chair of the Governing Board, has appointed the following persons to head the Consortium’s standing committees: Alan Tinkler, Finance Committee; Howard Pickett, Internship Committee; James Calvin Davis, Institutional Liaison Committee; Connie Mick, Nominating Committee; and Jill Bouma, Program Committee.

Co-chairs of the Shepherd Consortium Search Committee for a new Executive Director to succeed Harlan Beckley, Larry Connolly and Jay Barth, are working with the search committee members (Connie Mick, Peggy Finucane, John Carroll University; Richard “Duke” Cancelmo, Bridgeway Capital Management in Houston, Texas; and Dr. Andrew “Drew” Kumpuris, Cardiologist in Little Rock Arkansas) toward a fall appointment. Freeman Philanthropic Services, LLC, New York City, is providing consultation for this search.
