When students apply to SHECP, they are agreeing to an internship experience that will place them in a new community, with new roommates, and in a new professional setting. Therefore, every summer, SHECP alumni, friends, and community partners host events to welcome SHECP interns to their town. From rooftop lunches with community partners to ice cream socials with friends of SHECP, minor league baseball games with friends of SHECP to dinner with SHECP alumni, breakfast with SHECP staff to gelato with local SHECP alums – these events encourage interns to integrate into their cities and connect with the strong SHECP network.
A huge thank you to all the SHECP alumni, friends, and community partners who welcomed interns into your cities, organizations, and homes! Our interns have consistently ranked these events among their top experiences for the summer.
“Gathering with all the Atlanta SHECP interns and connecting with the larger SHECP community was a valuable experience. We shared reflections on our internships, lessons learned, and our future goals. These conversations provided a deeper insight into my cohort's experiences and the social impact of our work. The dinner was a wonderful opportunity to network and widened my circle of alumni who can help me in my future endeavors.” – 2024 SHECP Intern
