Shannon Bell
Shannon Bell, assistant professor of sociology at the University Kentucky, has received another accolade for her recent publication, Our Roots Run Deep as Ironweed: Appalachian Women and the Fight for Environmental Justice. Most recently, her 2013 book was selected as the runner-up for the Green Book Festival in the “general non-fiction” category. The Green Book Festival recognizes books that “contribute to greater understanding, respect for and positive action on the changing worldwide environment.” Shannon is a former Shepherd Program intern from Washington and Lee University. She worked at the Cabin Creek Clinic during the summer of 1999. Shannon currently serves as part of the Shepherd Consortium faculty at the University of Kentucky.
